The UNBC Centre for Teaching, Learning, and Technology and UNBC Library are offering small grants of up to $1,500 per semester (maximum duration = 2 semesters) to support the adoption of Open Textbooks and other Open Educational Resources (OER) in UNBC courses. These grants are intended to support UNBC instructors to hire a UNBC student to assist in research and resource development to enable UNBC courses to shift learning resources to OER as primary course materials. OER adoption is one way to address textbook affordability for students, and to encourage local development and adaptation of high quality open resources for use in UNBC courses.

In addition to the funding provided by these grants, in-kind contributions from the UNBC Library and the CTLT will assist recipients in locating, evaluating, and adapting high quality Open Resources as an alternative to expensive commercial course materials.

Criteria

Proposals will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
  • Active engagement of students with faculty in the adaptation/adoption of open educational resources (OER)
  • Curation and customization of OER that will be freely and openly shared throughout and beyond UNBC
  • Impact on student experience, including high-quality materials, maximum access, open and innovative pedagogy, and cost savings to students
