Understanding Participation in Public Recreation
Project Title: Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility: IDEAs in Public Recreation
Primary Investigator: Yue-Ching Cheng
Institution: Langara College
Contact: yccheng@langara.ca
What is this study about?
We are doing a study on how immigrant and racialized communities in BC experience public recreation (community centers, sports programs, parks, etc.). We want to learn:
- How people use and participate in recreation, and what it means to them.
- What challenges make it hard to participate.
- How communities and recreation staff can work together to improve access.
What will I do?
This is an online survey that will take 10-15 minutes
Do I have to participate?
No. This is 100% voluntary. You can stop at any time, skip questions, or choose not to participate.
Are there any risks?
There are no serious risks, but you might think about experiences that could cause discomfort because they are personal or emotional. You can skip any question you don’t want to answer.
Will I be paid?
Survey participants will be entered into a draw for one of thirty-five (35) $10 VISA gift cards. There will be a approximately 35 in 300 or 1 in 11 chance of winning a gift card.
Will my answers be private?
Yes. Your name will not be used in reports, and all information will be kept private. If you withdraw/exit before submission, no data will be collected. Once the survey is submitted, individual data becomes part of an anonymized dataset, and data withdrawal may not be possible.
