Survey: VSB 2025-2026 Budget With deep gratitude and respect, we are honoured to be learning and unlearning on the ancestral and unceded lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) & səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation).Under the School Act, VSB must approve a balanced budget. All operating and financial decisions are informed by the Education Plan and priorities in the Framework for Enhancing Student Learning report. As the Board makes its budget decisions, it also considers ways to address the structural deficit. During the last several years, surplus money (savings over time) was used to pay for some rising costs of existing programs and operations as well as new priorities. This is not a long-term solution. Also, like households and organizations everywhere, VSB’s costs have risen. For the school district, this includes: Collective agreement salary and benefits increases not fully funded by the government over time. Fewer students enrolling in VSB’s International Education Program (as tuition-paying learners). Higher costs of maintaining aging facilities. Inflation costs not funded by the government over time. We want to hear from you – families, students, staff and the broader Vancouver community – about your support in a few priority areas. Your feedback will be considered by the Board as it makes budget decisions. * Information is collected in accordance with section 26(c) of BC’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
