This study takes place on the traditional territories of the Lək̓ʷəŋən (Lekwungen) peoples, known today as the Songhees and Xʷsepsəm/Esquimalt Nations, and the W̱SÁNEĆ peoples, whose historical relationships with these lands and waters continue to this day. As we study community impact and belonging in our region, we acknowledge our work takes place within the context of BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA). Civil society organizations play a vital role in supporting reconciliation and cultural revitalization through relationship-building, cultural programs, and collaborative initiatives. Through this study, we also seek to better understand and articulate these contributions, while exploring how increased investment in the sector could further strengthen this important work.
*Civil Society includes non-profit organizations and institutions; they are separate from government and business. For our study, we invite registered charitable organizations to participate.
